Drafting
Junior Leagues
Upon joining a league that fills, a junior league will automatically be created that your league will draft from. There are 4 junior teams for 10-team leagues and 6 junior teams for 15-team leagues. Each junior team has 19 players (12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 1 goalie) and will never receive any injuries.
Junior teams play a 30 game round-robin season. Different teams have different coaching strategies (trap, free flow, high pressure), so it is a good idea to take these strategies into consideration when comparing stats. The schedule, stats, and standings for junior leagues are found by clicking "Leagues" (left navigation) and then one of the junior links on the league profile page.
Draft Order
The default draft system is a lottery system. The semi-finalists and dominance trophy winner have a lottery between them and draft last. All teams that fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs have their own lottery and draft first. The draft board is released on Day 25. The first round of the draft takes place on Day 27, the second round on Day 29, and the third round on Day 30.
Player-owned leagues have the option of customizing their draft such that the draft order will be based on regular season standings, with the last team drafting first and the first team drafting last.
Teams control who they draft by ranking the junior players. Do this by clicking on "Drafting" and then using the drop-down box to assign a player's rank. Come draft time, you will automatically get the highest ranked player still available based on your rankings.
Draft Ranks
The draft has a popular rank, a scouting rank, and your own team rank. The scout rank is a lot more accurate than the popular rank but costs credits (proportional to your arena and income).
Scouting as many players as you can afford is a very good idea as it will allow you come up with more accurate junior rankings and likely draft better players.
Junior stats are also a good indicator of a player's ability, however, the scout rank is the most accurate indicator.
Be sure to factor age and your team's needs (maybe you want to draft a certain type of player) into your junior rankings. Popular ranks and scout ranks do not factor in age or your team's needs.
Structure
The draft has three rounds. Round 1 is done on day 21, round 2 is done on day 23, and round 3 is done on day 25. Draft rankings may be adjusted in between rounds. All rounds are processed at 1 PM (server time).
Impact of Trading Draft Picks
If a draft pick is traded between two teams in the same league, the team acquiring the draft pick will draft in the place of the team that traded the draft pick.
If a draft pick is traded in the off-season between two teams that join different leagues, the team acquiring the draft pick will use that draft pick at the end of the designated round. Draft picks used at the end of a round are labelled sandwich picks.
